Lots of good stuff happening this weekend:
1. NYC Marathon and Olympic Mens Marathon Trials:
My good buddy from the SportsPlex Tri Club (STC), Russell Westbrook, will be doing the NYC Marathon on Sunday. He's been nursing a bad achilles but I bet he'll still smoke the course. Also, the day before the big marathon is the Olympic trials for men. My picks for the top three are : Ryan Hall, Brian Sell, and Dathan Ritzenhein.
2. City of Oaks Half Marathon:
I haven't heard for sure yet, but I am pretty sure Inside Out signed me up for the half marathon this weekend. My hamstring is feeling much better and I am ready to give this thing a real try. From a fitness perspective I am thinking about 1:20, but my muscles and tendons just haven't had enough miles in them for that kind of time, so probably something in the 1:25 range is about right, depending on how bad these hills are. My training bud Jim Bos will be running the full marathon and he's going to get a PR (and probably a ticket to Boston), he just doesn't know it yet.
3. Ironman Florida:
It's the one year anniversary of our trip to Florida to do our first Ironman. What an amazing experience that was. Tom Hughes from the STC will be competing in his first on Saturday, so best of luck to him. We are jealous! Here's the video my wife Rebecca made after we came back, in case anybody who reads this has never seen it:
